Charge RN, UofL Hospital – Post Surgical/Progressive Care Unit

Location: Louisville, KY (530 South Jackson Street, Louisville, KY 40202). Shift: Days 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Part-time. Overview

UofL Health is a fully integrated regional academic health system dedicated to delivering patient-centered care. The Charge Nurse assists the Clinical Manager and Nursing Director with unit management, staffing and scheduling, patient and preceptor assignments, resource utilization, and quality improvement activities. The Charge Nurse serves as a resource to staff, promotes customer service, and supports professional nurse practice and unit initiatives. Responsibilities

Assist in assessing and meeting staffing needs within the unit budget; delegate patient assignments based on staff expertise and patient acuity; ensure unit operations run smoothly across shifts. Serve as a role model for customer relations; monitor and intervene to maintain high levels of internal and external customer service; round on customers as required. Participate in employee evaluations, coach staff, enforce disciplinary processes per policy, and maintain regulatory standards and department/facility policies; document appropriately. Review and investigate occurrence reports; develop action plans for actual events and near misses; share results with staff. Provide clinical resource support and education as needed; may assist with scheduling, patient flow, and unit productivity management. Essential Functions

Participate in staffing planning and resource utilization; assign tasks and patients according to staff qualifications and patient acuity; manage unit operations across shifts. Model professionalism and customer service; monitor service levels and intervene as needed. Support staff development and performance management; ensure compliance with policies and regulatory standards. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and unit audits as required. Facilitate unit and committee meetings; communicate effectively with Nursing Director, Unit Managers, and Charge Nurses; ensure HIPAA compliance. Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school (required). Credentials in specialty area (preferred). Experience

Two (2) years of patient care experience in the specialty area (preferred). Licensure

Active Kentucky Registered Nurse License or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required). Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (required). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (preferred). Note:

Identifies personal goals and actions to meet unit and organizational goals. Monitors supply use to meet patient needs; participates in policy revisions and quality improvement initiatives. Maintains open communication with health care team members and nursing leadership; participates in unit meetings and committee activities. Maintains compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards of conduct; protects patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA. Performs other duties as assigned.
