Overview Position: Monitor Technician

The Monitor Technician is responsible for ongoing surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Measures and interprets patients’ heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards. Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry.

Attends mandatory in services.

Attends staff meetings as required/requested.

Utilizes cost containment practices.

Adheres to all WPHC policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance, and submission of annual physical.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.

Successful completion of EKG course and EKG exam prior to completion of orientation.

BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required within 6 months of hire or transfer into the position.

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Hazardous chemicals are listed in the hospital’s SDS database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).

Must be physically able to frequently push/pull/lift heavy objects more than 50 lbs and lift patients of all weights with a minimum of one assist or assistive device; perform difficult manipulative, arm–hand steadiness and hand–eye coordination; walk and stand for prolonged periods.

Must have the ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time.

Salary Salary Range: $48,750-$73,144 (Based on FT employment)
