Position Summary The Unit Clerk acts as a receptionist, communicating using good customer service skills with all persons. The Unit Clerk performs clerical duties and is also responsible for preparation and maintenance of the patient’s chart including order transcription. Maintaining confidentiality and accuracy of patient records is an extremely important aspect of this position.

Responsibilities

Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors

Maintains medical records of patients on unit.

Enters requests such as patient assignments into the computer, optilink or manual system in a timely and accurate fashion

Answers and places phone calls

Answers patient call lights and communicates information to nursing staff.

Demonstrates effective time management

Maintains established inventories of supplies.

Maintains an orderly environment at the nurse’s station utilize

Assures smooth clerical operation on the unit.

Adheres to WPH policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physicals

Utilizes the computer for order entry and for ordering supplies.

Verifies stock supplies and prepares requisitions to maintain established inventories.

Transports supplies and specimens and performs other errands as requested.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements Education & Experience Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent

Previous work experience with some knowledge of clerical and hospital procedure preferred. Previous experience with computer and/or office machines preferred.

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.

Ability to remain in stationary position 90% of the time

Ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruption, attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time, attend to multiple tasks at the same time while maintaining accuracy.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Constantly utilizes/operates computer to access information

Ability to communicate to physicians and other hospital employees regarding requests for information

Salary Range:

$41,691.00 - $43,563.00 (Based on FT hours)
