Estimating & Cost Management: Lead the preparation of conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP estimates. Develop accurate quantity takeoffs, detailed budgets, and cost models at every stage of design. Prepare bid packages, solicit and analyze subcontractor proposals, and make scope recommendations. Maintain historical cost data, market pricing, and production rates to inform future estimates. Track design changes and communicate cost implications throughout preconstruction. Prepare professional proposals, pricing narratives, and client-facing presentations. Design & Preconstruction Coordination: Collaborate closely with owners, architects, and engineers to align design, cost, and schedule objectives. Participate in design and coordination meetings, providing constructability insight and cost guidance. Develop and manage preconstruction schedules that communicate milestones and deliverables. Anticipate potential design or constructability challenges and recommend proactive solutions. Support design-build and CMAR projects by integrating cost, design, and scheduling strategies early. Project Strategy: Identify and evaluate value engineering opportunities that enhance efficiency and performance. Provide constructability reviews and recommend alternative materials, systems, or approaches. Conduct feasibility studies and life-cycle cost analyses to support client decision-making. Contribute to strategic planning for project execution and risk management during preconstruction. Client & Partner Engagement: Serve as a trusted advisor to clients during the preconstruction phase. Lead presentations and communicate complex cost data clearly and effectively. Build strong, lasting relationships with clients, design teams, and trade partners. Represent Boyd Jones with professionalism, collaboration, and integrity at every interaction. Support business development efforts by participating in pursuits and proposal development. Team Leadership & Development: Mentor and guide estimating and preconstruction team members, fostering growth and technical development. Promote teamwork, accountability, and excellence across project teams. Conduct post-project reviews to improve estimating accuracy and process efficiency. Champion Boyd Jones’ culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement. What You’ll Bring
8–10 years of progressive preconstruction and estimating experience with a commercial general contractor. Proven experience leading preconstruction efforts on commercial projects such as office, healthcare, education, industrial, or mixed-use developments. Demonstrated success in managing complex estimates, design coordination, and client communications. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, and related estimating tools. Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, systems, and design processes. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Proven leadership ability with a collaborative and team-oriented approach. Our People
