Overview Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the Special Assessments Receivable System, including research, setup, billing, collection, maintenance and reporting of all special assessments (water, sewer, roads, parks, etc.).

Enforce liens by means of foreclosure and take or release deeds of properties.

Assist with miscellaneous accounts receivable, payment application, journal entries and project billings.

Prepare financial reports, schedules, summaries and audit working papers.

Participate in the preparation of annual audited financial statements.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and six (6) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.

Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline, and four (4) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline, and two (2) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.

A certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and two (2) years of professional accounting, payroll, or similar work experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

PREFERENCES

Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License.

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA applicants.

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
