is seeking an
Accountant
to join our Finance team. This role will be responsible for managing the organization’s accounts payable and payroll functions, ensuring accurate financial record-keeping, timely processing of payments, and compliance with company policies and regulations. The role provides support to the Controller with general ledger maintenance and bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Responsibilities
Ensure invoice packages are complete including purchase orders, authorizations, and proper account coding; enter invoices into the accounting system (Abila) and process payments. Reconcile accounts payable to the trial balance. Prepare year-end vendor 1099s. Maintain vendor master files including W-9s, contracts, and insurance. Prepare and post journal entries. Assist with preparing account analyses, general ledger reconciliations, and ad hoc accounting reports as necessary. Assist with preparation of month-end closing, allocations, and financial statements. Assist with annual year-end audit schedules. Account for cash receipts and transactions within council; prepare bank receipts. Run monthly reports in NetSuite; maintain chart of accounts in Abila and NetSuite. Provide monthly investment statements and reconciliations; process monthly expense reports in a timely manner. Process payroll accurately and timely, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; maintain payroll records with tax withholdings, benefits deductions, and wage garnishments. Review and reconcile payroll reports, identify and resolve discrepancies; coordinate with HR to ensure accurate employee records, salary adjustments, and benefits administration. Generate and distribute payroll reports as needed for internal and external audits. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Associate degree in accounting, finance or related field; and two years’ experience in accounts payable and payroll processing or recording. Knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including GAAP. Proficiency with Excel and accounting/payroll software (e.g., MIP Abila, ADP, Paycom, or similar). Strong attention to detail and analytical skills; good knowledge of payroll and AP regulations, tax laws, and best practices. Experience with general ledger maintenance and bank reconciliations. Personable, self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and time-management abilities. Ability to adapt and be highly organized, with problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication; professional and confidential demeanor; ability to work independently or as part of a team. Preferred: MIP Abila experience; nonprofit or public sector accounting experience. Flexibility to shift work hours as needed, including evenings and weekends; ability to lift up to 30 pounds; valid driver’s license if driving a council vehicle; reliable transportation for travel between council properties.
