This position is detailed from Jefferson County Health Department to the headquarters Bureau of Epidemiology – Immunization Section. It entails independent work under the supervision of the State Health Office Immunization Section providing evaluation, technical assistance, management, consultation and coordination for a statewide immunization program. The incumbent is responsible for their part in achieving state and national immunization objectives consistent with federal immunization grant requirements, in an assigned geographic area that includes a large, diverse urban population. The activities are varied and complex, designed to improve immunization levels and reduce vaccine-preventable disease morbidity and mortality in Florida. The position serves as Information Custodian for specified information sets and as Key Custodian for specified secure areas, maintaining security policies and procedures for protection of data and release of confidential information. This position is responsible for supervising staff, including appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and having authority for hiring and disciplinary action.
Responsibilities
Enhance service delivery by conducting quality assurance and quality improvement activities for immunization program management; provide technical assistance to immunization providers and staff; disseminate information to staff to facilitate needed changes; provide ongoing technical assistance as needed. Perform assessments, surveys and audits by collecting, compiling, evaluating and submitting statistical data related to immunization status and policies; pursue corrective action when necessary. Assist CHDs in implementing immunization information systems and automation tools (Clinic Management System Immunization Module, Merlin, SHOTS); act as a resource for automation issues and support public and private providers. Coordinate linkages with WIC and Economic Assistance programs to ensure integration of immunization services with other supports and to monitor eligibility-related immunization proof. Target interventions toward pockets of need by identifying geographic areas with high under-immunization risk, measuring coverage, and implementing measures to achieve high coverage among high-risk groups. Collaborate with Managed Care Organizations and private providers to implement quality improvement measures aligned with ACIP recommendations and state immunization policies; encourage enrollment in the VFC program for private providers serving young children. Develop and deliver training on immunization activities; support coalitions and public education to raise awareness and provide resources for immunization questions from the public. Participate in vaccine surveillance and outbreak control activities, follow up on VAERS reports, and assist in prevention efforts for perinatal hepatitis B. Provide hands-on vaccine management support to ensure minimal vaccine wastage and maintain vaccine accountability; assist in maintaining vaccine handling and storage standards. Manage immunization activities as outlined in the Immunization Program Activities Calendar and County Health Department Guidebook; supervise clerical staff and prepare descriptions, analyses and reports of immunization activities related to perinatal Hepatitis B prevention, VFC, Immunization Registry and QA/QI. Knowledge of the Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases Knowledge of the Standards for Pediatric Immunization Practices Knowledge of Florida Statutes pertaining to immunizations for enrollment or participation in school, child care, and public assistance programs Knowledge of state and federal requirements related to the Vaccines for Children Program, VAERS, and Vaccine Information Statements Knowledge of the state immunization registry Knowledge of County Health Department Guidebook immunization policies and technical assistance Ability to operate the Health Clinic Management System Immunization Module Ability to conduct assessments using the Clinic Assessment Software Application Ability to maintain the Perinatal Hepatitis B Registry Ability to conduct vaccine inventories Qualifications
