This position is located in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program, Fleet Readiness Department in the Fitness/Sports and Deployed Support Department at the Dam Neck Annex Fitness Center. The purpose of this position is to assist the Fitness Director to provide fitness training and education at the installation serviced.
Responsibilities
Plan, market and conduct ongoing fitness programs to provide conditioning for facility users.
Instruct individuals and groups in proper conditioning and training for aerobic and muscular fitness, body composition and flexibility.
Instruct patrons in proper use of equipment and self-monitored progress by preparing written instructions and procedures for use of equipment and safety of all users.
Plan, evaluate and ensure the fitness program meets the physical development and fitness standards of authorized patrons.
Administer the fitness program, provide instruction on strength conditioning and instruction of fitness equipment.
Approach patrons on the fitness floor to provide training tips and correct unsafe or ineffective exercise techniques.
Assist with the management of the fitness center including opening/closing, checking user IDs, monitoring towel usage, and returning weights and equipment to proper locations.
Routinely inspect and clean equipment, perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs; coordinate major repairs as needed.
Provide information and instruction related to nutrition, cardiorespiratory and strength conditioning.
Instruct center users on proper and safe use of equipment and resources; assist with designing and implementing fitness programs compliant with rules and regulations.
Design and monitor unstructured individualized self-paced programs for users or assist users in developing their own program as requested.
Conduct newcomers orientation or equipment orientation classes for military, family members, civilians, retirees, and others eligible to use the facility.
Provide administrative support to operate the facility as necessary (e.g., registration, waivers, schedules, records).
Conduct inventories and maintain property accountability of equipment.
Assist in budget preparation and facility needs assessment with data for the annual budget.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.
Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for childcare positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, and a State Criminal History Repository check when there is regular contact with children under the age of 18.
Must be able to obtain the following within 60 days: CPR and First Aid, AED, Blood-borne Pathogen training, and Navy Basic Fitness Certification.
Occasional travel of less than 10% may be required.
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Qualifications Must have both certifications in order to be considered for this position (all certifications must be included in the application):
Fitness instructor, personal trainer or certification from an NCCA-accredited health/fitness organization
A primary certification from an accredited health/fitness organization
Additional qualifications necessary for this position:
Professional competence in the physical activity program or area.
Knowledge of the safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic fitness equipment maintenance/repair.
Skill in planning and carrying out an enhanced program in the recreation specialty area which meets the needs of the participating community.
Skill and ability to provide fitness training and programming to individuals and groups of various sizes.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Ability to competently and independently carry out fitness programs through the proper application of principles, concepts and techniques of recreation to satisfy specific needs of the community to be served.
Ability to conduct accurate fitness testing and provide a recommended fitness program based on goals.
Ability to prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports related to work within the Branch.
Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Work requires lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, stretching, twisting and utilizing all major muscle groups in demonstrating physical fitness techniques, equipment and teaching group classes in a hot/humid environment.
Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.
Additional information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
Some positions have special requirements. Selectee may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period.
