Overview

Job Title: Assistant Professor of History Location: Albany State University (West Campus: 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707; East Campus: 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705). The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111. About Us: Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Job Summary: Albany State University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of History. The program seeks to prepare students with foundational knowledge in American, World, and Georgia history as part of the core curriculum. The ideal candidate will be prepared to teach world history surveys and other history courses with a global emphasis that may include Latin American History, African History, and Asian History. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

Teaching : Faculty are expected to teach a load of 15 credit hours per semester, which may be adjusted to 12 hours per semester if actively engaged in a well-defined research program, subject to a semesterly review. In the first year, all new faculty will teach a 15-hour load. Courses may include a mix of face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online classes. Summer teaching opportunities are available, with a maximum of 9 credit hours.

Research and Scholarly Activity : All tenure track faculty are expected to provide evidence that they are staying current in their field and offering up to date course content. Faculty who engage in ongoing research may qualify for a reduced teaching load.

Student Mentorship and Support : Faculty will provide mentorship to students, assisting with academic planning, offering career guidance, and helping ensure student success. Faculty will also hold regular office hours and provide individualized feedback on student performance.

Service and Campus Involvement : Faculty members will participate in department and campus activities, including committee work, program development, and contributing to campus events. These contributions help foster a vibrant academic community and support students\' growth both within and beyond the classroom.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

A PhD in History is preferable. ABD candidates or candidates with a Master\'s degree and prominent, relevant research will be considered.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate with different age groups along with students of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In addition, communication should be central to teaching strategies, advisement and academic preparation.

Experience in teaching online or hybrid style courses.

Experience in teaching both US and World history survey courses.

A minimum of two years teaching experience is required, but consideration will be given to exceptional candidates with fewer years experience.

Demonstrated use of varied instructional technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated teaching experience at the college level in both traditional and online environments.

A minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience is preferred.

Demonstrated commitment to working with and supporting diverse student populations.

A record of research or scholarly activity.

Experience in Public History and/or Black History is desirable.

Salary Proposed salary: $51,600 - $59,000
