Overview
Trauma and Emergency General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) role at The MetroHealth System (Cleveland, OH). Location: MetroHealth Medical Center Biweekly Hours: 80.00 Shift: 8-5 Position Overview: The Trauma and Emergency General Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers direct patient care consistent with the APP’s education, experience, and certification, in collaboration with the attending Trauma and Emergency General Surgery physicians. This includes the diagnosis, management, and referral of health care issues specific to Trauma and Emergency General Surgery (EGS). The APP will complete pre- and post-surgical management and recognize options for non-surgical management of trauma, EGS, and critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with Trauma/EGS attending physicians, general surgery residents, and APPs to complete daily rounds on the trauma and surgical floors and in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Respond to Emergency Department (ED) consults for EGS, collecting data and interpreting laboratory and imaging results to develop and document assessments and care plans.
Perform bedside procedures for both surgical and non-surgical patients.
Work with the team to complete timely documentation and carry out care plans effectively.
Partner with Trauma/EGS APPs, Trauma/EGS attendings, surgical residents, nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, social work and case management to develop disposition plans with a multidisciplinary team approach.
Respond to trauma cases in the resuscitation bay, perform trauma survey assessments, and stabilize high-acuity patients in accordance with Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) guidelines.
Promote consumer, family, and community health through preventative health care actions and patient advocacy.
Provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, including periodically serving as a surgical first assistant during Trauma and EGS cases.
Rotate to partnering Level 3 trauma center Fisher Titus in Norwalk to provide consistent and high-quality care to surrounding communities.

Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited master’s degree program for: Physician Assistant (PA); Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP); Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or equivalent grandfathered certification.
National certification through NCCPA, ANCC, or AACN.
Licensure:
PA: License through the State Medical Board of Ohio.
NP: License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRn) and Registered Nurse (RN) through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
Eligibility for federal DEA registration.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or obtained within 90 days of hire.
Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification obtained within 180 days of hire.
Additional advanced life support certifications (as applicable to practice area) obtained within 180 days of hire.
Knowledge of sterile technique and aseptic practices.
Meet requirements for clinical privileges in the specialty/department with The MetroHealth System and apply for privileges at the time of hire.
Maintain a standard care arrangement or supervision agreement as required by Ohio law.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of Advanced Practice Provider experience
One year of surgical assisting experience
Experience in trauma surgery or critical care settings
Proficiency in procedural skills such as central and arterial line placement, ventilator management, chest tube placement, laceration repair and FAST exams
Priority for qualified candidates who have preference to work primarily at Fisher Titus, our partnering level 3 Trauma Center in Norwalk.
Additional Notes Other department-specific qualifications for providers will be addressed through the Certificate of Authority and credentialing process.
Work Environment The APP will work across multiple sites, including The MetroHealth System’s primary facility in Cleveland and partnering Level 3 trauma center in Norwalk. This role requires adaptability, flexibility in scheduling, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality care across diverse settings. Rotating holiday and weekend coverage is required.
