$17.85 - $21.70 / Hourly Summary Sr. Recreation Leader is a part-time position, working under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator/Supervisor and playing a vital role in bringing fun and engaging activities to life for a diverse community of all ages, including our senior community, with a compassionate, positive, helpful, and welcoming attitude and working in a fast-paced, energetic atmosphere to deliver a consistent quality guest experience in our recreation programs at our community centers, after-school programming, parks, gymnasiums, special events, and more. This position is a vital member of the Recreation Department. Based on qualifications and interest, you could assist in the following: Planning, developing, promoting, coordinating, and implementing a variety of our recreation programs and activities. This may include contributing to animal care and supporting animal-based education experiences at the Jurupa Mountain Discovery Center. Distinguishing Characteristics Ensure you have a strong understanding of programs and services and the ability to follow District procedures. Exercises independent judgment in planning, developing, and implementing skills. Collaborate, guide, and direct colleagues and volunteers to support and deliver a successful program. Strong communication, organizational, planning, and coordinating skills. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Afterschool Programming Monitor routine activities and assist with homework K-6th, sports, games, story time, and social activities. Work on weekdays, after school, all day during school breaks, and minimum day dismissals. Sporting Program Plan, organize, and lead various sports programs, including leagues, clinics, and special events. (e.g., basketball, soccer) Develop and implement curriculums for sports instruction, ensuring progression and skill development. Promote sports programs through outreach, marketing materials, and community events. Officiate games adhering to league rules and regulations. Ensure the safe set-up, use, and maintenance of sports equipment and facilities. Program Preparation And Support Maintains the security and proper functioning of assigned equipment and facilities. Assist with program planning and organization. Set up and clean up recreational areas and equipment. (sports, banquets, parties, meetings, classes, etc.) Provides supervisor with necessary information concerning programs and supplies. Assists volunteers in leading recreational activities or assignments. Assist in ensuring the health and safety and daily care of all animals residing within JMDC exhibitions, maintaining standards of care and the quality of their environment in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. Support educational programming by incorporating live animal care elements into visitor experiences and exhibitions, when appropriate. Participant Safety And Engagement Monitor activities and enforce safety rules to ensure orderly conduct in a safe and fun environment. Maintain a safe environment for participants and staff. Lead activities according to schedules and registration requirements. Organize, officiate, and instruct children’s activities (sports, games, crafts). Teach fundamentals of play and sportsmanship. Monitor spectators and participants at sporting and special events. Keeps attendance records and scores at sporting events and other activities. Customer Service And Information Provide excellent customer service and public relations. Answer questions and provide information about programs and events. Answering phones, providing information, and receiving and receiving program fees and facility deposits. Lead patrons in activities and follow schedules and registration requirements. Equipment And Inventory Management Receive, store, and maintain equipment and supplies. Performs general facility inspections and maintenance to recreation facilities as assigned. Operate necessary equipment for activities. Security of facilities and keys is a necessary element. Professional Development Attending and completing applicable online/in-person training sessions and orientations. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and take on new tasks.
