Overview
Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the Coaching Assistant, Men’s Rugby position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, the program comprises 34 varsity teams and about 1,000 athletes competing in NCAA Division I.
This is a part-time 10-month position scheduled to work 10 hours per week. The coaching assistant reports to the head coach and works primarily with newer players on the developmental team, with some crossover to the first and second teams.
Responsibilities
Assist the head coach in coaching all positions for both 7s and 15s.
Work primarily with newer players on the developmental team; collaborate with other squads as needed.
Possess a good working knowledge of the Laws of Rugby Football and be capable of refereeing scrimmages and matches.
Provide a safe and enjoyable learning environment that supports player development and progression to higher levels.
Demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Support a diverse and inclusive environment.
Complete a criminal background check satisfactory to Brown University prior to employment.
Maintain current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (available at no cost through the Athletic Department).
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
3–5 years of rugby playing experience; at least 5 years preferred.
3–5 years of rugby coaching experience preferred; experience coaching both 15s and 7s at collegiate, club, or higher levels preferred.
USA Rugby Level 200 coaching certification or higher; willingness to pursue certification if not yet achieved.
Additional Information
Job Competencies include technical knowledge of forward and backline play for 15s and 7s, ability to teach skills to players with varying experience, and commitment to safe, inclusive coaching.
All offers are contingent upon successful background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.
