The
Custodial Technician
is key in maintaining a clean, welcoming environment throughout the Zoo. Responsibilities include daily tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing floors, and emptying waste bins across offices, public areas, and facilities. This position helps ensure a comfortable guest experience and a healthy workplace for staff, supporting our mission of inspiring communities to save wildlife for future generations.
Schedule
Schedule Availability: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, five days a week, including both weekends and weekdays.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Perform daily cleaning tasks including vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing floor surfaces, and emptying waste for offices and facilities daily.
Disinfect and clean high-use areas daily, including restrooms and kitchens; clean various surface areas throughout Zoo grounds (indoor and outdoor).
Clean biohazard waste using appropriate PPE.
Pick up litter and debris throughout the Zoo.
Participate in snow removal operations; available to work a variable schedule, including early hours, weekends, evenings, and occasional holidays, in an on-call status for snow removal.
Operate light equipment used for projects.
Adhere to established procedures to provide a safe working environment.
Properly clean and maintain equipment.
Follow procedures for storage and disposal of trash and transport it to designated areas.
Report maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel.
Properly secure all doors within the assigned area.
Replenish disposable products such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
Work experience as a custodian/janitor or a similar role.
Working knowledge of industry equipment and how to maintain facilities.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to understand and follow oral, illustrated, written, or demonstrated instructions.
Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment for self and others.
Ability to follow all DZCA safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Position Conditions
Ability to pass a physical examination, background check, and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to move across 80 acres and/or stand up to 8 hours daily in adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, snow, or extreme heat.
