Livingston, Ford, McLean County, Illinois (home location)

Salary:

$5,369 to $7,368 per month (Salaried, Full Time)

Essential Functions

Performs processing inspections in state and/or federal plants on a variety of fresh, smoked, cured or cooked meat and poultry products.

Conducts antemortem and postmortem inspections in state and/or federal plants of animals and poultry.

Inspects processing procedures in plants to ensure proper product formulations and labeling.

Submits product samples for laboratory analysis to determine compliance with laws and regulations.

Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

High school education or equivalent; courses in algebra, biology, or chemistry preferred.

Successful completion of an agency‑approved meat and poultry inspection training program.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of antemortem and postmortem inspection techniques for meat producing animals and poultry.

Understanding of applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing the inspection and processing of meat and poultry products.

Knowledge of additives and preservatives used in processing meat and poultry products.

Experience conducting inspections to determine the presence or absence of disease or abnormal conditions.

Experience removing, dissecting, and analyzing glands, organs, and parts of animals for signs of disease.

Elementary computer hardware and software knowledge.

Experience operating computer and database applications utilized by the agency.

Experience analyzing and ensuring compliance of processing procedures and formulations with law and regulations.

Conditions of Employment

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between job assignments.

Capacity to lift materials up to 20 pounds and perform necessary bending and stooping.

Must pass a background check and self‑disclose criminal history.

Ability to tolerate unpleasant odors, extreme cold in meat lockers, and heat in processing areas.

Ability to use safety practices around dangerous meat cutting and processing machinery.

Willingness to work overtime, which may include weekends or holidays.

Must pass a pre‑employment physical.

Work assignments include KGN Farm, Slagel Slaughter, Slagel Family Meats, Wabash Poultry, Papineau Locker Inc., Berry’s Processing Inc., and Gourmet Trends Kitchen Inc.

Must reside in Livingston, Ford, or McLean County east of Interstates 39 and 74.

Work Hours 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday‑Friday (daily hours may vary).
