Overview The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Responsibilities

Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.

Performs complete histories and physical examinations.

Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.

Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.

Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.

Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.

Performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population.

Night-time responsibilities include working nights (shifts 6 pm to 6 am), Monday through Sunday, on a rotating schedule covering inpatients on the Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery and Urology services, with additional Saturday/Sunday coverage (6 am–6 pm) on a rotating basis.

Receive patient sign-outs from residents/PAs, care for inpatients during assigned shifts, create work lists for the following day, and provide sign-out of overnight events in the morning.

Evaluate patients with acute changes in clinical status; manage postoperative patients (e.g., drains, central lines, urinary catheters, NG tubes, basic suturing).

Assist in operating room cases as needed, with majority of time spent managing non-OR, floor issues.

Develop knowledge of ORL, Plastic Surgery, and Urology procedures as described in the service requirements.

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant required.

Licenses and Credentials:

Physician Assistant State License (generic HR) required.

Experience:

Experience as a licensed Physician Assistant preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Skilled in taking medical histories, maintaining quality standards, responding in emergencies, interpreting and applying guidelines, and communicating clearly with patients and staff.
