Overview

Staff Accountant. Classification: Exempt. Reports to: Controller. Date: October 2025. Summary/Objective: The Staff Accountant performs assigned accounting and analytic responsibilities in the VOANR Finance Department. This includes general accounting, grant accounting, budgeting, and other designated fiscal services such as financial reporting, compliance, audit preparation/support, and financial analysis/decision support. The position works with Finance team leadership and colleagues, carrying out responsibilities in accounting, budgeting, auditing, and compliance. Responsibilities

Embraces and understands technology to maximize organizational efficiency. Perform general accounting, budgeting, and related duties in the Finance Department. Fulfill accounting duties for assigned grants and/or contract funding sources. Perform routine department accounting activities using the appropriate software systems (e.g., QuickBooks and grant accounting tools). Maintain knowledge to perform financial service activities while adhering to internal control protocols, regulatory requirements, VOA policies, and grantor/donor contract terms. Perform and/or approve daily banking transactions and assist with fraud prevention techniques. Compile periodic profit and loss statements for programs and projects as needed. Prepare documentation and schedules to substantiate general ledger allocations of expenses between departments and project codes for audits and donor/contract substantiation. Ensure accuracy of general ledger coding and allocations in line with grant, contract, and budget requirements and GAAP practices. Ensure staff compensation and benefit allocations align with grant and budget specifications. Prepare labor distribution reports to support department and grant spending activity. Monitor for inappropriate expenditure or security threats and communicate concerns to Directors and CFO as needed. Compile organizational statistics for decision support and budget preparation. Monitor aged receivables and payables to ensure timely reimbursements and payments. Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and internal accounting software. Understand other accounting aspects to act as a backup in department areas. Stay current on regulatory and other requirements impacting service areas. Perform accounting and clerical functions in conformity with GAAP/FASB. Collaborate with organizational leaders and staff on program financial matters. Perform quality assurance during monthly accounting cycles to ensure accuracy of activity and reporting. Ensure timely adherence to all reporting requirements. Maintain audit readiness and support the Finance team during monitoring visits and reviews. Maintain records to meet retention requirements. Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management, or five years of accounting experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Five to eight years of accounting, grant, compliance, and finance experience. Work Details

Supervisory Responsibility: This position will not have direct supervisory responsibilities, but the incumbent may mentor other positions in the organization. Work Environment: Professional office environment with standard office equipment. Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk or hear; close vision and ability to adjust focus; ability to lift files and handle filing activities as needed. Position Type/Hours: Full-time, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Travel: Limited travel may be expected. Location
