Overview
Our vision for BD Interventional Surgery Division: In Surgery, our products empower providers to reduce the incidence of surgical complications, improve patients’ experiences and lower the total cost of surgical care. The BD Interventional Surgery Division offers a broad range of infection prevention and biosurgery products, including ChloraPrep skin prep, Arista Absorbable Hemostat, and Progel Air Leak Sealant. The Territory Manager (TM) will manage a territory base and expand the sales of BD products using a balanced selling approach that focuses on differentiating products, programs and services within the infection prevention and biosurgery space. The TM is responsible for attaining sales goals within the designated territory budget, growing sales of current accounts, and establishing new accounts. Responsibilities
Presents, educates, and provides in-services on the process/procedure of properly using the Company’s products to surgeons, OR staff, and other individuals. Provides on-site technical support during procedures to ensure proper use of the products. Trains and educates physicians and hospital staff and ensures staff have current product information. Ensures effective utilization of the products by all trained surgeons within the territory. Maintains detailed knowledge of BD’s products, channels, and distribution methods. Meets territory sales and profitability goals. Develops new prospects and establishes new customers. Informs customers of new and current products, backorders, order status, pricing, policy changes, and forecasts for new needs. Provides prompt, mutually satisfactory solutions to customers’ complaints. Attends customers’ meetings and tradeshows with post-convention feedback. Monitors market changes, competitive activity, customers’ credit status, and needed policy changes. Maintains knowledge of competitive distribution, discounts, local terms, strategy, strengths and weaknesses. Uses productive selling time effectively (e.g., calls in late afternoon with a minimum of three ORs per day and four surgeon contacts per day; doctors contacted in their offices if not available at the hospital). Gathers knowledge of prices, discounts, availability of each product, and competition by quality and quantity. Maintains product knowledge and educates hospitals on new products added to the line. Continually increases knowledge of industry trends, sales skills, promotion techniques, product information, and sales forecasting. Manages relationships with the District Manager, fellow Territory Managers, and customers. Plans sales calls on a continuous basis and organizes time for effective territory coverage; maintain a daily written plan. Utilizes nurse lectures, journal clubs, local seminars, resident lectures, hospital displays, and evaluation committee product presentations. Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant sales experience required. Operating room sales/medical device experience preferred. Documentation of successful sales performance required. Ability to work in an operating room environment required. Strong interpersonal, oral, communication, organizational and planning skills. Proven ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (Sales Training, Marketing, National Accounts, Customer Service, Contracts, Field Sales Team, KOLs, Surgeons, Physicians, Nurses, Sourcing). Understanding of needs/analysis approach to sales; contract administration and group purchasing knowledge. Must live within assigned region. Travel – approximately 50% of work time, including overnight. Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license and meet BD’s auto safety standards. Desirable Skills And Knowledge
Procedure knowledge adequate to illustrate benefits of BD’s products. Basic anatomy – ability to discuss products in relation to the human body. Work Environment and Other Information
