Responsibilities

  • Maintain, service, and troubleshoot UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment as part of the Critical Power Group.
  • Operate as factory trained on major UPS manufacturers of static equipment (e.g., Ametek, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, Powerware/Eaton, among others).
  • Perform preventive maintenance and equipment testing as well as emergency service calls at high profile government, institutional, and commercial customer facilities.
  • Provide engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions of M.C. Dean, Inc.
  • Travel daily with an independent work structure; be available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off-call.
  • Maintain/safeguard company issued equipment, tools, and instruments; manage battery repair and replacement, installations and replacements.
  • Complete required preventive maintenance service to equipment under contract as scheduled; maintain customer contact and interface; communicate availability status to corporate office and team leads.
  • Protect company proprietary information, manuals, and records; use electronic and electrical test equipment as necessary.
  • Coordinate and manage on-site subcontractors hired by M.C. Dean as necessary; maintain vehicle and insurance as required.
  • Ensure work is performed to M.C. Dean Standards; complete paperwork timely and accurately (Field Service Reports, Time Sheets, Expense Reports, and other required reports).
  • Provide technical support to customers upon request; maintain technical documentation for study and/or review.
  • Attend product-specific training as deemed necessary; cross-train other UPS technicians as needed.
  • Inspect power electronic systems and their controls (UPS, battery systems, static transfer switches, power distribution units, etc.); perform inspections, maintenance checks, failure analysis, and repairs.
  • Certify by signature that systems and components adhere to quality standards established by codes, publications, checklists, and specifications; review system drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine maintenance and inspection requirements; resolve discrepancies between recorded and actual components; make and certify changes for the record.
  • Provide technical assistance and expertise on power electronic devices to owners and engineers; advise site personnel on proper maintenance practices and techniques; prepare findings and recommendations for system improvements and quality control programs.
  • Maintain physical ability to perform required tasks (lifting batteries and equipment, working at heights, etc.) and observe all safety standards.
  • Maintain proficiency with instruments such as digital multimeters, power analyzers, infrared cameras, insulation testers, EMI/EMF meters, battery test equipment, oscilloscopes, and related tools.
  • On-call availability 7x24x365; job may require overnight travel at company expense.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years OEM experience in power electronic system maintenance and repair (e.g., Vertiv, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, Powerware/Eaton) and progressively challenging experience.
  • Experience with various UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and related electrical apparatuses such as switchgear, panels, breakers, disconnects, ATSs, and generators.
  • AA/BS degree in Electrical and/or Electronics from an accredited college or university, or equivalent field or military training.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, maintenance practices, and quality control procedures; ability to evaluate complex electrical systems, diagnose malfunctions, and estimate maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to use a laptop and various software packages; strong written and oral communication skills; willingness to pursue future training and certification (various Manufacturer Maintenance Courses, Power Quality Training).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products is preferred.
