Responsibilities

The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS brands (e.g., Vertiv, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, Powerware/Eaton). Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency service at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial sites. The group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and internal divisions.

  • Travel daily with an independent work structure.
  • Available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off-call.
  • Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments.
  • Perform battery repairs, replacements, installations, and replacements.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Engage with customers directly.
  • Communicate status updates to the office and team leads.
  • Protect proprietary information and documentation.
  • Use electronic and electrical test equipment as needed.
  • Manage on-site subcontractors when required.
  • Maintain vehicle safety and insurance compliance.
  • Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Provide technical support and maintain technical documentation.
  • Attend product-specific training as needed.
  • Cross-train with other UPS technicians.

Other duties as required.

  • Inspect power electronic systems and controls, including UPS, batteries, static transfer switches, PDU, etc.
  • Certify systems and components according to standards and codes.
  • Review system drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical assistance on power electronics to owners and engineers.
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting, and prepare reports with recommendations.
  • Meet physical demands, including lifting batteries and working safely.
  • Maintain expertise with various testing instruments.
  • Be available 24/7 when on-call, including overnight travel if necessary.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Supervisory Controls

Work is supervised by regional managers and team leads. Technicians receive schedules and priorities, with autonomy within policies. Completed work is reviewed for compliance, quality, and organizational goals. The primary purpose is to inspect and certify power electronic systems to ensure reliability, availability, and quality of power, enhancing system maintainability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years OEM experience with brands such as Vertiv, SCI, Cyberex, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Gutor, APC, MGE, Schneider Electric, Powerware/Eaton, with progressive maintenance and repair roles.
  • Experience with UPS, batteries, test equipment, switchgears, panels, breakers, disconnects, ATS, and generators.
  • AA/BS in Electrical/Electronics or equivalent military/training background.

Candidate Expectations

  • Ability to interpret technical instructions, plans, blueprints, schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, maintenance, and quality procedures.
  • Skill in evaluating electrical systems, diagnosing issues, estimating maintenance needs.
  • Proficiency with laptops, software, and communication devices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to undergo manufacturer and power quality training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.

Abilities

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, demonstrating strength and stamina.
  • Ability to relocate a 12-foot ladder, work at heights up to 60 feet, and climb ladders/scaffolds.
  • Physical capabilities including walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching.
  • Good vision and hearing, ability to communicate effectively.
