At least 5 years experience installing copper and fiber optic network cabling
At least 5 years experience installing, testing, and maintaining physical telephone cabling (copper, fiber optic)
Experience with project management of varying sizes of construction projects.
Basic knowledge of BICSI and EIA / TIA telecommunications standards.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiar with TCP /IP networking
Experience with telecommunications ticketing systems
Experience troubleshooting complex technical problems
Team Leadership Experience
Certifications ( BICS , etc)
Job Description
We are hiring a network technician to support our multi-campus voice and data network infrastructure. You will be supporting a large campus network with copper and fiber optic cabling in about 150 buildings. You will be part of a team that maintains the physical network cabling and supports users with telephones, electronic door access, security cameras and other technology infrastructure.
About Us:
We are a small team that is responsible for operating all aspects of the Texas State University campus network. Each member of the team wears multiple hats depending on the task at hand. We strive to maintain a highly reliable and available network infrastructure for the university community.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, who enjoys learning new things and solving problems. You should have strong interpersonal skills and must be able to work collaboratively with a team and interface with end-users and management. You must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve specific goals and complete assigned tasks and projects.
Job Duties
Install, terminate and test voice and network cabling, including category-6 copper cables as well as single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables.
Troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of network infrastructure and cabling problems.
Create, track and report work orders related to moves, adds, changes and problem resolution.
Utilize test equipment to verify all communication cables meet established standards and specifications.
Other duties as assigned.
