Director, Antibody Discovery and Protein Sciences
INGENIA Therapeutics Inc. is a biotech startup company located in the LlNX building in Watertown, MA, specializing in microvasculature healing. We strive to develop antibody-based therapeutics across multiple disease areas including renal, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases.
We are seeking a highly motivated
Director
to lead antibody selection, screening, protein production, and characterization. This individual will play a central role in building our discovery capabilities, working both hands‑on in the lab and through close partnerships with CROs. The Director will provide scientific leadership for antibody discovery, lead optimization efforts, and guide a small internal team.
Key Responsibilities
Develop multispecific antibodies, lead optimization, and candidate selection.
Drive antibody discovery efforts, including selection, screening, and functional characterization to support therapeutic programs.
Design experimental strategies and oversee execution by internal staff and CROs, ensuring scientific rigor, alignment with program goals, and timely deliverables.
Perform in‑house characterization to generate and evaluate key research materials.
Develop and implement assays for antibody/protein quality, binding, and activity (e.g., ELISA, SPR/BLI, FACS, cell signaling assays).
Analyze and interpret data, integrate findings across internal and external efforts, and communicate results to project teams and leadership.
Contribute to program strategy by advising on antibody discovery platforms, protein sciences approaches, and CRO selection/management.
Mentor and guide a small team (1–2 research associates) to ensure high‑quality execution and professional development.
Foster strong, productive collaborations with internal colleagues and external partners.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field with 8+ years of relevant biotech/biopharma experience; or M.S. with 10+ years of experience.
Highly experienced with antibody drug lead optimization.
Understanding of multispecific drug scaffold design in immunology and oncology will be a plus.
Demonstrated expertise in antibody discovery and screening (hybridoma, phage/yeast/mammalian display, or single B cell technologies).
Strong track record in protein expression (mammalian preferred), purification, and characterization.
Proficiency with biophysical and functional assays (ELISA, BLI/SPR, FACS, cell-based assays).
Experience managing CROs and external collaborations.
Proven ability to lead scientific direction and oversee small teams.
Excellent data interpretation, presentation, and communication skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, resourceful, and entrepreneurial environment while balancing hands‑on lab work with external program leadership.
