Sports Management & NIL Consultant | CEO, SFG | HR Transformation & Continuous Improvement Leader Project Cost Analyst (Capital Projects – Construction/Utilities)
Work Schedule:
Hybrid role – employees are required to be in the office
four (4) days per week
and may work
one (1) day remote .
Position Summary The Project Cost Analyst will play a key role in supporting the planning, execution, and financial performance of large-scale capital projects within the construction and/or utilities sector. The role focuses on
cost control, forecasting, and reporting
to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with corporate, regulatory, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the
Cost Analyst
for capital programs and projects, providing cost management and financial oversight.
Collaborate with project/program managers, engineers, and track leads to build, validate, and maintain project forecasts.
Develop, monitor, and report on
budgets, cost estimates, cash flows, and forecasts , including variance and trend analyses.
Support the
Authorization for Expenditure (AFE)
and project funding processes, serving as process facilitator.
Create purchase requisitions, track the
purchase order life cycle , and ensure proper cost allocations.
Submit monthly accruals and reconcile forecasts against actual expenditures.
Partner with project management, engineering, procurement, and finance to ensure accurate
cost allocation
and alignment with schedules.
Support development of
Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
and cost coding to accurately track labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Prepare and present detailed cost reports, dashboards, cash flow projections, and funding requests for internal and external stakeholders.
Conduct risk and contingency analysis, identifying potential cost impacts and recommending mitigation strategies.
Evaluate cost implications of scope changes and support the
change management process .
Maintain compliance with corporate financial controls, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
Assist with audits, closeout processes, and lessons learned by reconciling budgets to actuals.
Communicate across all levels of the organization and support multiple concurrent projects.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Construction Management, or related field.
OR Associate degree with
5+ years
of relevant project cost analysis experience.
3–7 years
of experience in project cost analysis, project controls, or project management (capital project focus preferred).
Proficiency with Excel and financial analysis/reporting tools.
Ability to work hybrid:
in office 4 days per week .
Preferred Experience
Experience in the
energy/utilities sector
(natural gas pipelines, storage, water, electric, or process plant development).
Familiarity with
construction and utility capital projects
and regulatory/reporting environments.
Knowledge of
earned value management (EVM) , cost estimating, and scheduling principles.
Prior involvement with regulatory reporting for utilities.
Professional certifications such as
CCP (Certified Cost Professional)
or
PMP (Project Management Professional)
a plus.
