Base pay range $225,000.00/yr - $495,000.00/yr

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities The IP Patent Prosecution Associate (Biological Sciences) will work closely with partners and other associates in the prosecution and strategic management of patent portfolios for clients in the life sciences industry related to cutting‑edge technologies, such as gene editing, cell and gene therapies, antibody and peptide therapeutics, and molecular diagnostics. The ideal candidate will leverage advanced scientific expertise to provide technical insight in support of patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio counseling relating to sophisticated matters for clients ranging from early‑stage startups to global life sciences and pharmaceutical companies. This is not a remote/hybrid position.

Responsibilities include

Drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications in biotechnology and related disciplines.

Conducting freedom‑to‑operate, validity, and patentability analyses.

Assisting in IP due diligence, portfolio management, and strategic counseling for emerging and established biotech clients.

Collaborating with attorneys to provide scientific expertise in support of litigation, licensing, and other IP‑related matters.

Maintaining current knowledge of

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

and international patent practices, procedures, and developments relevant to life sciences technologies.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in biological sciences, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, or a related field (required). Highly qualified candidates with an M.S. and several years of industry research experience may be considered.

Must be registered to practice before the USPTO with a valid registration number and in good standing (required).

Must be admitted to local state bar and in good standing (required).

Strong background in biotechnology or biopharmaceutical sciences, with demonstrated expertise in areas such as gene editing, antibodies, cell and gene therapies, or related technologies.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear legal documents.

Minimum of one (1) year of prior law firm or in‑house patent prosecution experience in biotechnology is strongly preferred.

Team‑oriented, detail‑focused, and committed to providing high‑quality client service.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and superior academic background.

Desire for significant responsibility and client interaction.
