Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The IP Patent Prosecution Associate (Bioinformatics & Computational Biology) will work closely with partners and other associates in the prosecution and strategic management of patent portfolios for clients at the forefront of life sciences and technology related to AI‑enabled drug discovery, digital therapeutics, digital pathology, and drug‑device‑digital combination technologies.

The ideal candidate will leverage a combination of advanced scientific and technical expertise to provide insight in support of patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio counseling relating to sophisticated matters for clients ranging from early‑stage startups to some of the world’s largest and most innovative companies at the intersection of the rapidly evolving life sciences and technology sectors.

This is not a remote/hybrid position.

Drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications in life sciences technology and related disciplines.

Conducting freedom‑to‑operate, validity, and patentability analyses.

Assisting in IP due diligence, portfolio management, and strategic counseling for emerging and established biopharma and technology clients.

Collaborating with attorneys to provide scientific and technical expertise in support of litigation, licensing, and other IP‑related matters.

Maintaining current knowledge of

U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

and international patent practices, procedures, and developments relevant to both scientific and high‑tech areas.

Required Qualifications:

Degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, biomedical engineering, systems biology, biological data sciences, biomedical informatics, structural biology, biophysics or a related discipline (advanced degree preferred).

Must be registered to practice before the USPTO with a valid registration number and in good standing

(required).

Must be admitted to local state bar and in good standing (required).

Strong background in engineering, computer science and/or bioinformatics, with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

AI/ML for drug discovery / computational modeling of biological data

Digital therapeutics / digital health / software in medical devices

Computational pathology / image analysis / histomics

Genomics / sequence analysis / systems biology / multi‑omics data integration

Processor architecture, hardware acceleration, software systems for interfacing with computational biology

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific and technological concepts into clear legal documents.

Minimum of one (1) year of prior law firm or in‑house patent prosecution experience in science and technology is strongly preferred.

Team‑oriented, detail‑focused, and committed to providing high‑quality client service.

Excellent written and oral communication skills and superior academic background.

Desire for significant responsibility and client interaction.

Salary Range (CA):

$225,000 - $495,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
