Lumentum has an opportunity for a senior engineer of optical engineering in the Cloud Module R&D team based in San Jose, US.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This experienced individual is responsible for the design and development of optical systems in advanced fiber optical transceivers. This role requires a deep understanding of optics principles and the ability to apply them to create the best-in-class optical subsystem, and collaborate with other optical communication system designers to ensure that the optical system meets technical specifications and environmental requirements while optimizing for manufacturability, cost, and performance. A successful candidate will have a blend of technical knowledge, practical skills, and collaborative ability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the optical design of optical/ laser/fiber subsystems: requirements, simulation, tolerance analysis, prototype bring‑up, design verification (DV), and production validation (PV) Integrate optical components into mechanical and electronic systems together with mechanical engineer, electrical engineers in various products, e.g. ship on board optical transceivers, co-packaged optics. Perform simulations and tolerance analysis using industry-standard software (Zemax, CODE V, LightTools, FRED, etc.). Conduct testing to verify that the optical systems meet the required specifications and performance levels. Contribute to root-cause analysis and design improvements based on experimental data. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE MS or PhD in Optical Engineering/Physics or equivalent education. Motivated, result driven team player. Experience in optical design and familiarity with optical simulation software (e.g., Zemax, Code V, FRED). Proficient in understanding and applying principles of optics to the fiber optical communication system and components. Skilled in laboratory alignment, optical metrology, and troubleshooting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with other engineering disciplines and documenting design processes. Multi-disciplinary background with a demonstrated record of innovation. Strong program leadership, clear technical writing/drawing practices, and the ability to influence across functions and suppliers For strong, motivated candidate, not all skills are required. Pay Range: P40-USA-1 :$85,000.00 - $121,400.00
