Summary

The Assistant Director, Employer Relations is a critical connection between the legal market and South Texas College of Law’s legal talent. The Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in all aspects of employer relations, recruiting, and all activities related to employment events and programs. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and providing comprehensive recruitment opportunities for all students, anticipating and identifying employer needs for recruitment, counseling students on career goals and job searches, and implementing student recruiting processes for on‑campus and off‑campus recruitment programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Stay current on legal hiring trends and career development best practices through professional development activities, conferences, and networking opportunities.

Build and maintain relationships with legal employers, alumni, law firms, government agencies, corporations, and non‑profit organizations to facilitate student and alumni placement.

Attract, cultivate, and foster long‑term relationships with employers and represent the law school at internal and external events.

Plan and execute strategic onboarding, interview programs, and recruitment sessions on campus and virtually.

Develop and enforce policies for employer participation and student participation in recruiting programs, ensuring adherence to deadlines, protocols, and diversity recruiting efforts.

Respond to student requests for policy exceptions and handle student feedback on employer interactions.

Develop and implement application and program timelines for various recruiting events, including job fairs, consortium events, and employer visits.

Organize the annual recruiting calendar, schedule employer information sessions, manage job fair logistics, and advise employers on marketing strategies.

Identify industry shifts and create strategic plans to meet internal and external partner goals.

Survey and assess employer recruiting needs to improve recruiting service quality.

Collaborate cross‑departmentally to coordinate institutional customer service efforts.

Develop student job development programs and resource materials to prepare students for employer interactions.

Design and deliver communications and marketing materials to employees and students regarding recruitment activities.

Conduct employer/student offer surveys and class‑wide career interest surveys to analyze placement data.

Maintain and promote development of the CRC Peer‑to‑Peer Network.

Career Counseling Provide individualized career counseling for a proportionate share of the student body (300+ law students). Counsel students on career goals, job‑search strategies, interview preparation, resume and cover letter formatting, and career pathways including but not limited to Big Law, Mid‑size firms, Small firms, Government, Public Interest, Judicial internships and clerkships, and doctoral programs.

Recruitment Programming And Outreach Advance and complement all aspects of recruiting, including cultivation, management, and maintenance of employer outreach; develop, execute, and refine program offerings and student development initiatives that align with the school's mission.

Work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.

Provide support for targeting legal and non‑legal employers for potential employment opportunities.

Comply with all aspects of the law school's Customer Service Standards.

Contribute to the overall mission and goals of the law school and the Career Resource Center.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with all visitors and students.

Service‑oriented and customer‑centric mindset.

Proficiency in Windows‑based software and Microsoft applications (Word, Access, PowerPoint).

Team player capable of managing multiple interruptions in a fast‑paced environment.

Self‑starter with strong prioritization and organizational skills.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

JD Preferred.

Language Skills

Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to proofread all outgoing material.

Mathematical Skills

Basic math skills.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands include sitting, talking, standing, walking, occasional light to moderate lifting, bending and stooping. Vision requirements include close vision for data input and proofreading, and distance vision for visitor assistance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Fast‑paced, non‑smoking environment requiring adherence to Customer Service Standards. Standard working hours: 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. with occasional evenings and weekends.
