Job Summary Parkland Health is seeking experienced
Coding Specialists II
to perform coding and charge review for emergency department (ED), same day surgery (SDS), outpatient clinics (OPC), observation (OBS), specialty clinics, and inpatient OB/newborn encounters. This fully remote role requires proficiency in ICD‑10 CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, HCC, HEDIS CAT II, and E/M coding, with an ability to ensure accurate billing, coding integrity, and compliance with hospital policies. Candidates with Risk Adjustment coding experience must also have Evaluation and Management (E/M) coding expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately code, abstract, and perform charge quality review on all assigned episodes of care.
Assign diagnosis and procedure codes using CMS standards.
Verify, edit, and enter charges based on documentation or payer/billing requirements; report discrepancies promptly.
Maintain at least 95% accuracy on quality reviews and assigned productivity standards.
Update patient databases with classification codes and resolve inconsistencies to ensure accurate health information.
Train and review work of other coders, as needed, to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
Stay current on coding standards, healthcare regulations, and industry trends.
Recommend process improvements to enhance workflow and customer satisfaction.
Maintain positive working relationships with physicians, nurses, and hospital staff.
Comply with all Parkland policies, procedures, and information security protocols for remote work.
Maintain continuing education (CE) hours and renew annual coding credentials.
Submission Requirements
AAPC certification: CPC, CPC‑H, and/or COC – REQUIRED
Graduate of an approved coding or health information management program – REQUIRED
Resume/work history, skills checklist, copy of certifications, at least 1 reference
Must indicate past Parkland employment or travel assignments, if applicable
Valid driver’s license
Required Skills & Qualifications
Proficient in at least 3 specialty clinic areas.
Knowledgeable in ICD‑9/ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT‑4/HCPCS, HCC, HEDIS CAT II, Risk Adjustment.
Experience handling high volume coding cases – REQUIRED
Evaluation & Management (E/M) coding experience – REQUIRED
Ability to assign CPT codes accurately – REQUIRED
Familiarity with EPIC EHR and 3M 360 coding – preferred
Hospital coding experience strongly desired
Equipment Requirements
Two monitors, keyboard, mouse, and webcam required.
