Senior Watershed Engineer/Scientist & Senior Project Manager GEI’s Boston Area with offices in Woburn and Franklin (Massachusetts), Bedford (New Hampshire), and Newport (Rhode Island) continues to grow, and we are seeking a highly motivated Senior Watershed Engineer/Scientist and Senior Project Manager to join our team. This role blends business development, project management, and technical expertise to deliver projects and expand GEI’s water resources practice. The candidate will mentor junior staff across New England and lead project teams in a wide range of water resources projects.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

Develop business by leveraging relationships and knowledge of clients, programs, and regulations.

Manage projects including development and implementation of lake management plans, watershed planning, MS4 program support, and natural resource field investigations such as aquatic plant surveys, water quality investigations, sediment sampling, and other watershed or limnological investigations for a wide range of potential clients.

Manage and serve as a technical lead for stormwater infrastructure planning and design projects, including stormwater control measure retrofits, green infrastructure, and nature‑based solutions.

Prepare summary memos, technical reports, figures, and recommendations to clients.

Deliver technical presentations to clients and other stakeholders.

Lead GEI teams to develop innovative and client‑centric proposals for new work.

Assist in recruiting, mentoring, and training staff.

Minimum Qualifications

10+ years of professional experience involving project management and business development in one or multiple of the subject areas listed above.

In‑depth knowledge of the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act, as well as implementing regulations such as state water quality criteria, TMDLs, NPDES permits, maximum contaminant levels and surface water treatment rules.

Experience implementing projects involving water quality monitoring, watershed modeling, stormwater planning, stormwater control measures, or water resources project design.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong organization skills; collaborator and initiative‑taker.

Bachelor’s degree in Watershed Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Lake Management, Natural Resources, Aquatic Sciences, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Leader in water resources professional organizations with a large network of clients and collaborators in the New England region.

Experience leading marketing and proposal development for one or multiple of the subject areas listed above.

Experience serving as a facilitator for multi‑agency watershed stakeholder groups.

Statistical data analysis, R and R Studio, ArcGIS, and cloud computing; knowledge of new sensors or remote sensing technologies in the field of water quality monitoring.

Master’s degree in an applicable field of study.

Licensed Professional Engineer.
