Base pay range $160,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr
Description GEI’s Southern California offices continues to grow and are seeking highly motivated Watershed/Lake Management Manager to join our team. The role will involve a mix of project management and technical expertise to deliver projects and grow GEI’s watershed and receiving water quality practice. The candidate will mentor junior staff across GEI’s West Region to support field efforts, and occasionally lead project teams in the field for implementation of aquatic ecosystem assessment studies.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
Project/Program Management
Lead business development pursuits
Staff mentoring
Participate as a leader on scientific committees/ organizations (e.g., California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA), Soc of Environ Toxiol and Chem (SETAC), Regional Southern California Bight Monitoring Program, CA Stormwater Monitoring Coalition (SMC), CA Aquatic Bioassessment Workshop (CABW).
Experience leading multi-stakeholder monitoring programs in southern CA.
Prepare and lead technical workshops/ presentations at conferences, educational institutions, and regulatory agencies
Collaborating with and supporting senior scientists and other staff level scientists for a wide range of environmental monitoring and permitting activities
Support and lead collecting of sediment, water, and biological samples
Operating field collection equipment (e.g., sediment and water samplers, water quality instruments)
Preparation of Work Plans and Quality Assurance Project Plans
Field sample collection permitting and communication (e.g., CDFW, USFWS).
Boat operations maintenance, trailering, and safety
Managing and analyzing field collected data
Summarizing and analyzing laboratory results (chemistry, toxicity, and biological communities)
Preparing report text and maps, data tables and summaries, and conducting statistical analyses of field collected and laboratory data
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) related to data and report review
Technical and scientific writing
Desired Skills
Participating in regional scientific organizations
Advanced statistical analysis experience (multivariate), GIS
Knowledge of local and regional water quality regulations (e.g., NPDES permits; Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), State of CA Sediment Quality Objectives (SQOs), Biological objectives, Harmful Algal Bloom, ASBS, and Toxicity Policy; the Clean Water Act Sections 401 and 404; the Porter-Cologne Act; the Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act; local and state Municipal and Industrial Stormwater Programs)
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, with preference to an Master’s degree and relevant professional licensing.
25+ years of direct environmental consulting experience.
Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and permitting programs at the federal, state, and local levels.
Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients.
Senior Leader recognized for technical excellence and the development of client-focused, creative and practical solutions.
Seller-Doer with established local network of clients and contacts, entrepreneurial spirit, and a successful track record in business development.
Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
Willingness and ability to travel to GEI branch offices, and project/client sites as required.
Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers.
Valid U.S. driver's license
