Job Purpose This position ensures technical alignment and steering for Intermediate Operations and Molding of 3D woven/epoxy composites in ASC, especially concerning cost and quality improvement projects.

Indirectly manage respective site process engineers at all ASC locations to ensure alignment between sites for the Intermediate and Molding operations and focused efforts to achieve overall business goals

Be the technical focal point for Intermediate Operations and Molding internally, as well as with suppliers and customers, to ensure effective solutions are chosen to accomplish objectives

Develop site process engineers to increase overall team skills and knowledge

Provide engineering/technical recommendations for continuous improvement of processing techniques.

Identify opportunities for improvement projects and lead them through the gated implementation process in alignment with internal and external commitments

Develop textile and composite manufacturing processes, preform fabrication and forming, preform winding, and resin transfer molding (RTM).

Take moderately complex, bounded or open ended, problems from the business, develop scope options, and effectively communicate best option for stakeholder review and approval.

Identify Key Product and Process Requirements (KPC’s), manage control and assure compliance of them throughout product value chain.

Support program communication, internally and externally.

Support periodic engineering/technical project updates as needed by customer.

Utilize established practices for change/configuration management, documentation and continuous improvement.

Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, operations, and internal and external supply chain personnel to diagnose issues and support continuous improvements.

Perform and contribute to feasibility & trade studies, cost analysis and return on investment (ROI) and cost benefit evaluations.

Support achievement of project schedule and scope.

Organize, prepare for, and/or conduct technical design reviews to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.

Support necessary engineering, verification/validation tests, and commissioning activities.

Drive continuous improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost.

Support root cause corrective action activities using structured practices such as DMAIC, 8D, etc.

Perform failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA, pFMEA, dFMEA) to establish and maintain stable processes.

Attendance is mandatory to ensure effective team collaboration and productivity.

Shift Day; Mon-Fri On Site.

Qualifications and Experience

BS Engineering degree, ME/AE/EE/ChemE preferred

3+ years direct experience in Manufacturing or Process Engineering for Intermediate Operations (forming, cutting, mold loading) and Molding via RTM of fiber/epoxy composites

Direct experience in an Aerospace manufacturing environment in alignment with AS9100

Application of statistics and Six Sigma tools to understand and solve problems

General understanding of 3D-woven composite materials fundamentals: manufacturing processes, applications, architecture, chemistry

Tooling/fixture design utilizing CAD/CAM software (Solidworks or equivalent), understanding of the fundamentals, a plus

MSOffice proficient: Excellent written and oral communication.

Application of risk analysis tools

Proven problem solving skills in teamwork setting.

Working Conditions

Duties performed indoors in a production environment with adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures; occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical fast-moving parts.

Primarily 1st shift with expected casual over-time.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel domestically and internationally (predominantly Mexico & France) up to indoor production environment, up to ~20%.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift objects up to 30 lbs.

Frequently move about the production floor and office area to attend meetings or trainings or perform Gemba walks.

May need to travel between different buildings at Rochester, NH campus.

May require sitting for extended periods of time.

May require sitting for extended period at desk to evaluate data, write reports and perform engineering tasks.
