Position Summary We are looking for a motivated individual with strong analytical skills to join our team. The position involves research and development of algorithms related to glucose sensing and insulin therapy technology. The individual will work with members of the algorithm team to improve the performance of therapy algorithms through the application of machine learning and advanced signal processing techniques, mathematical modeling, and experimentation. The role will involve all aspects of the R&D process, including data gathering, analysis, theory and algorithm development through to validation for regulatory submissions. A successful candidate will have in‑depth technical knowledge of machine learning and signal processing methodologies and will take part in the full cycle of the development process which includes but is not limited to design, implementation, debugging, testing and integration with other subsystems. The candidate will also be involved in the documentation of such algorithms for regulatory submissions both domestically and internationally.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This separation provides our team with a bold opportunity to unleash our potential, enabling us to operate with greater speed and agility. As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care.

This role requires you to work on‑site at our Northridge, CA office at least 3 days per week. This on‑site presence is vital for collaboration and maintaining strong team connections.

Responsibilities

Apply principles of controls theory, feedback control, machine learning and signal processing, develop algorithms in MATLAB or other software package to test concepts.

Analyze, quantify and visualize large amounts of data to generate verifiable conclusions.

Contribute development projects from investigation through to productization.

Comply with external and internal regulatory requirements.

Write detailed technical and scientific reports and manuscripts.

Apply data analysis results to aid product development decisions and clinical study design.

Collaborate closely with others in the R&D organization.

Minimum Requirements

4+ years of experience (Medical device industry preferred) in algorithm development with a bachelor’s degree.

OR, 2+ years of experience (Medical device industry preferred) in algorithm development with an advanced degree (PhD, Masters).

Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required

Knowledge of and direct experience working with controls theory, algorithm development, and machine learning methodologies.

Extensive programming experience with MATLAB and/or Python.

Demonstrated ability to work and lead within a team‑based project environment.

Ability to effectively communicate technical information through presentation and through the preparation of technical documentation and/or manuscripts.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.

Nice to Have

Industry or academic experience working with biological signals; preferably in medical devices.

Experience in a regulated industry and exposure to regulatory submissions.

Experience interacting with a multi‑disciplinary, cross‑functional team.

Experience utilizing statistical methods to inform decision making.

Demonstrated ability in managing/supporting multiple projects in a deadline‑driven environment.

Demonstrated ability in producing written documentation such as specifications, engineering reports, test plans, test procedures, validation plans, and validation reports.

Salary ranges for U.S. (excl. PR) locations: $138,400.00 – $207,600.00. This position is eligible for a short‑term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific California locations. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on experience, certification, education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance; Health Savings Account; Healthcare Flexible Spending Account; Life insurance; Long‑term disability leave; Dependent daycare spending account; Tuition assistance/reimbursement; and Simple Steps (global well‑being program).
