The position is located in the El Paso VA Health Care System Audiology Department. It is a full‑time, mid‑senior level role with a base pay range of $73,939 – $115,213 per year.
Summary This role involves conducting audiological assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, designing and implementing hearing rehabilitation plans, and providing patient counseling. The audiologist will support veterans across all clinical areas within the medical center.
Qualifications
United States citizenship (non‑citizens only if qualified citizens unavailable)
Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an accredited program (ACAE or CAA) or equivalent hearing‑science doctoral degree
Full, current, unrestricted state or territorial license to practice audiology at the doctoral level
Proficiency in spoken and written English (38 U.S.C. 7403(f))
Knowledge of assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders (KSA a)
Ability to perform contemporary audiology scope of practice as defined by the American Academy of Audiology or ASHA (KSA b)
Strong communication skills with patients, families, and health‑care professionals (KSA c)
Professional experience: one year of comparable practice for GS‑11 level; additional KSAs for GS‑12 level (advanced diagnostics, cochlear implant programming, vestibular testing, hearing‑aid fitting, counseling, and rehabilitation planning)
Preferred experience with adult patients, vestibular studies, tinnitus evaluation, and cochlear‑implant mapping
Responsibilities
Conduct audiological assessments and determine the need for amplification, aural rehabilitation, and counseling
Interpret behavioral, electro‑acoustic, and electrophysiologic tests for hearing, balance, tinnitus, and neural function
Prescribe and fit hearing aids, ear protectors, and assistive devices; perform routine inspections and repairs
Design and implement individualized treatment plans, including auditory training and rehabilitation programs
Administer vestibular function evaluations and interpret results
Provide patient and family education on device use, hearing‑aid maintenance, and preventive hearing care
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive veteran care
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to VA regulations and quality standards
Physical requirements: predominantly sedentary work with occasional walking, standing, and lifting of light items (≤ 15 pounds)
