Job Description AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Water/Wastewater Engineer with a passion for water and wastewater conveyance, treatment plant design, and infrastructure resiliency. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute immediately to an established and successful Southern California water practice, delivering technically challenging and high-profile projects for regional and municipal clients.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership on complex civil and water infrastructure projects from planning through permitting and construction.
Offer technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams, both locally and virtually.
Manage civil, stormwater, and resiliency design projects.
Oversee hydraulic modeling and design of water and wastewater conveyance systems.
Review and prepare engineering reports, design drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
Lead the preparation of engineering proposals, fee estimates, and project schedules.
Stay current with industry trends, design technologies, and regulatory developments.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
10+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with emphasis in water/wastewater or related fields.
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in California, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
Preferred Qualifications
18+ years of experience in the design, analysis, and management of municipal water, wastewater, and/or stormwater infrastructure projects, particularly within dense urban environments.
In-depth knowledge of design codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for water/wastewater/stormwater projects.
Proven leadership and communication skills for client, subconsultant, and agency coordination.
Strong organizational and team collaboration skills.
Demonstrated ability to independently solve engineering problems and make technical decisions.
Excellent technical writing and report preparation skills.
Experience preparing engineering deliverables including reports, drawings, specifications, and estimates.
Track record of delivering resiliency, stormwater, and flood protection projects.

Compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s location, experience, and qualifications.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $170,000 to $240,000.
