My client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to join our Turbines Business Unit in Austin. This senior, customer-facing position plays a critical role in both customer programs and New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts, taking responsibility from the proposal stage through qualification, testing, and production support. The role offers the opportunity to own complex projects, influence designs, and guide technical decisions across the full product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and validation of micro-turbine and turbo-generator technologies, including both static and rotating components in metallic and composite materials.
Apply Siemens NX and Teamcenter for 3D design and product data management, ensuring compliance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
Perform advanced structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses with ANSYS or equivalent tools, covering rotor dynamics, blade/vane dynamics, elastic‑plastic behavior, and heat transfer.
Translate conceptual ideas into practical, cost‑effective designs that emphasize manufacturability and performance.
Manage hardware throughout its lifecycle—from digital models and PLM systems to hands‑on assembly and test verification.
Prepare and contribute to proposals for customer or internally funded projects.
Oversee project planning and execution, ensuring scope, timeline, budget, and quality objectives are met.
Partner with multidisciplinary teams and subject matter experts to meet technical and program milestones.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations to senior leadership for issue resolution and strategic direction.
Support test planning, execution, and data analysis to confirm design performance.
Ensure all work complies with AS9100 quality standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or related field) required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience in turbomachinery design, development, or testing.
Strong foundation in engineering principles and aero‑engine component design.
Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as machining, welding, and casting.
Programming experience in MATLAB, Fortran, C, or Python is a plus.
Proven ability to independently lead projects and take ownership of full systems.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
Effective communicator with both customers and internal stakeholders.
Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to also work autonomously.
