Acutronic is looking for a Mechanical Engineer II to join our team in Austin, TX. The Mechanical Engineer II is a key, customer facing role within the Acutronic Turbines Business Unit. The engineer in this role will have broad responsibility over customer-driven projects and New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts, from proposal through qualification testing and production support. Mechanical Engineer II Your Roles/Responsibilities: Research, develop, and design micro-turbines and hybrid-generator sets Perform mechanical design and analysis of static and rotating hardware of metallic or composite construction, both in the cold and hot section of the engine Utilize Siemens Teamcenter and NX for modelling and drafting, adhering to the latest dimensional and tolerancing standards (ASME Y14.5) Set up and conduct analysis using a variety of tools, including ANSYS, or similar codes. Program simulations involve elastic or elastic-plastic behavior, blade and vane dynamics, rotor-dynamics, and heat transfer Iterate design concepts with significant focus on driving cost reduction and value into the design Work on customer-funded or internal projects; help draft proposals for customer projects Project management tasks for the design and production engine systems Coordinate with sales, procurement, assembly, testing, and field service teams on complex projects Advise senior management on solutions to problems Mechanical assembly of microturbine hardware Test data acquisition and post processing to validate designs Support and operate within an AS9100 quality environment following standard protocols Your Profile/Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent Engineering from an accredited college or university, required At least 3 years of experience in turbomachinery related field required Ability to develop methodologies for the design space exploration of aero-engine component Strong attention to detail Collaborative team player with the ability to also work independently Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills Understanding of manufacturing methods (such as machining, casting, welding, etc.) Ability to lead projects and own component and subsystem design We Offer: Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance Company-paid holidays and Paid Time-Off 401k match 9/80 schedule Position Type/Physical Demands: Work is generally performed in an office environment 10-15% domestic travel required to support customer / supplier About Acutronic: The Acutronic Group has a proud history of building technologies and teams that are crucial to the aerospace, defense, and transportation industries.
