Overview
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADNS) role at Sunrise Senior Living. The ADNS is responsible for providing assistance and supervision of the clinical care and services to guests/residents in the skilled nursing center in accordance with federal, state, and local standards and Sunrise Senior Living policies, promoting the highest degree of quality care. Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Services: provide assistance in clinical care ensuring consistent delivery of quality guest/resident services. Budget and Resource Management: assist the Director of Nursing Services in maintaining the skilled nursing budget (labor, medical supplies, census). Care Planning: participate in the Care Planning process, attend meetings, update care plans, and perform other duties as directed. RAI Process: understand and assist with the Resident Assessment Instrument process. Clinical Documentation: review and assist in case management of Medicare and non-Medicare residents; ensure interdisciplinary notes reflect care provided; ensure timely and accurate documentation in charts. Meetings: participate and provide leadership in Clinical At-Risk meetings and daily PPS meetings to obtain information for admissions and discharges. Medication Management: review and monitor medication records and administration. Clinical Rounds: conduct effective visits/rounds at least twice daily in the skilled nursing center and as needed with physicians. Incident Reporting: research and document all incidents of abuse, neglect, and misappropriation of funds as assigned by DNS/ED/SNA. Risk Management, Safety, and Infection Control
Partner with the community team to ensure OSHA compliance and promote Risk Management programs; adhere to safety rules and regulations. Practice safety procedures at all times (PPE, fire extinguishers, SDS, Lockout Tagout). Lead infection control practices; provide training as needed; manage exposures and disposal of hazardous materials; ensure safe storage of oxygen tanks and proper monitoring of prescribed levels. Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
Strive for excellent quality of care and service, institute follow-up on corrective actions. Review incident/accident reports to analyze safety issues and develop plans of correction. Lead quality improvement areas (Skilled Nursing/Resident-Centered Care Model; Sunrise and Federal Quality Indicators). Provide analysis of Quality Indicators and assist with development plans; ensure compliance with Federal, State/Provincial, Local regulations; participate in surveys; lead Plan of Correction for state/provincial surveys; support mock survey processes. Restorative, Clinical Systems, and Medication Management
Train and monitor Designated Nursing Assistants in Restorative programs; evaluate documentation and resident status; refer residents to restorative as indicated. Lead Sunrise practices for care and services related to skin, nutrition, behavior, falls, and bowel/bladder; oversee documentation, physician consultations, and communication of changes to DNS. Monitor medication management: ensure meds/administered as ordered; review physician orders; liaise with pharmacy; ensure labeling and regulation compliance; audit MAR/TAR; maintain medication rooms and carts; supervise controlled substance protocols. Guest/Resident, Family and Visitor Relations
Respond to guests/residents and families professionally and promptly; communicate medical care and incorporate requests into nursing standards; coordinate available healthcare resources; maintain confidentiality. Financial Management
Understand and manage department budget; coordinate with community team for staff economies and cross-training; understand internal costs of Sunrise resident care programs. Training, Leadership, and Team Development
Assist in department management (recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, disciplining); participate in Sunrise University training; ensure compliance with state/provincial regulations; support Team Member Engagement goals; manage staffing and scheduling; monitor timekeeping and payroll; hold team accountable and document corrective actions; attend regular meetings; pursue ongoing professional development; maintain required training compliance; perform other duties as assigned. Core Competencies
Ability to handle multiple priorities; delegate effectively; strong written and verbal communication; facilitate small group presentations; strong organizational and time management; good judgment and problem-solving. Experience and Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited college/school of nursing. Current RN license (state/province) as required by regulations. Minimum of one year supervisory/nurse management experience in a nursing environment. Knowledge of nursing practices for skilled nursing; knowledge of long-term care regulations; proficient in RAI. Proficient in computer skills and Sunrise applications; ability to learn new applications.
