Senior Research Associate – Chemistry Position Type:

Full‑time, 3‑year fixed term

Salary:

$127,000 – $150,000 plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading

Location:

Australia – UNSW campus

About the Role Lead independent and collaborative research within the ARC‑funded Industry Laureate project, focusing on advanced aptamer‑based sensor technology. Coordinate electrochemical investigations to develop electrodes, advancing sensor performance and facilitating commercialization.

Key Responsibilities

Design, perform, and supervise electrochemical experiments for sensor evaluation.

Supervise and mentor students and colleagues, fostering a productive research environment.

Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks of experimental procedures, observations, and results.

Deliver analyses and generate results suitable for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.

Author scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reports to industry partners.

Prepare research proposals and actively seek industry collaboration.

Lead coordination of research activities to meet project milestones.

Present findings at national and international conferences.

Demonstrate compliance with the Code of Conduct and UNSW values.

Identify and control hazards and risks in your area of responsibility.

Qualifications & Experience

PhD specializing in electrochemistry.

Proven experience in developing aptamer‑based sensor technologies.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement electrochemical surface‑characterisation procedures.

Extensive experience with precise and reliable electrochemical measurements.

Background in interfacial design and new surface chemistries.

Strong mentoring record with PhD and Honours students.

Track record of high‑quality research outputs and independent research competence.

Leadership skills and research excellence.

Excellent communication and networking abilities.

Team‑orientated with strong interpersonal and organisational skills.

Commitment to UNSW values and relevant policies.

Knowledge of health & safety responsibilities and training.
