About The Role Senior Research Associate – ARC funded Industry Laureate project, leading independent and collaborative research focused on advanced aptamer‑based sensor technology. Position involves coordinating electrochemical investigations to develop electrodes, enabling deeper insights into sensor development and facilitating transition toward commercial applications.

Salary: $127K – $150K plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading. Fixed Term – 3 years. Full‑time (35 hours per week).

Reports to Scientia Professor Justin Gooding; no direct reports.

Specific Responsibilities

Design, perform and supervise electrochemical experiments for sensor evaluation.

Supervise and mentor students and colleagues, fostering a collaborative research environment.

Maintain laboratory notebooks detailing experimental procedures, observations, and results.

Complete experiments on time and provide analysis of results.

Write results for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.

Contribute to authorship of scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reports to researchers and industry partners.

Prepare research proposal submissions to funding bodies and seek industry collaboration.

Lead coordination of research activities and actively contribute to research outputs to meet project milestones.

Present findings at national and international conferences, representing the project at a high professional standard.

Align with and demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.

Identify and control hazards and risks (psychosocial and physical) within your area of responsibility.

Selection Criteria

PhD specializing in electrochemistry.

Proven commitment to developing aptamer‑based sensor technologies.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement electrochemical procedures for surface characterisation.

Extensive experience performing precise and reliable electrochemical measurements.

Significant experience in interfacial design and new surface chemistries.

Success in a research environment, including mentoring PhD and Honours students.

Record of delivering high‑quality research outputs and conducting independent research with limited supervision.

Demonstrated research leadership and continual achievement of research excellence.

Exceptional communication skills and ability to network effectively with diverse teams.

Team collaboration across disciplines and building effective relationships.

Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.

Commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and relevant policies.

Knowledge of health & safety responsibilities and commitment to training.
