Overview

The Events Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and advising on special events for University Centers and Student Life, primarily supporting events for the 600+ student organizations at UCSD. These events include trade shows, concerts, conferences, dances, symposiums, night markets, VIP events, and other related activities. Responsibilities

Arrange all event requirements specified by parties using the facilities and ensure University Centers meets all terms of each reservation contract. Meet with facility users to collect event details and communicate them to all appropriate University Centers and UC San Diego departments. Ensure event spaces are set up per specifications and provide on-site support during events to meet client needs. Manage accounts receivable and track and report on event data and surveys to ensure high-quality service. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Working knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Venue Scheduling Software (EMS), and Venue Diagram Software. Knowledge of event planning and production, public relations, budgeting principles related to events, and coordinating logistical aspects of large and small events for the UC San Diego community. Familiarity with campus resources, safety and security requirements, and coordination with relevant departments (Fire Marshal, Police, Special Events Parking, etc.). Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities; ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines with excellent customer service. Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills; ability to work with diverse groups including students, staff, faculty, and external partners. Experience operating a student union or multi-purpose facility, including interaction with operations, custodial, maintenance, event programming, security, and technical staff. Ability to work professionally under pressure and in fast-paced environments; capacity to coach, train, and motivate student employees. Special Conditions

Must be able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends, and evenings as needed. Occasionally lift, push, or pull >25 lbs to move tables, chairs, and other event equipment. Pay and Contract Details Appointment Type: Contract, 100% with potential for extension or conversion to career status. Worksite: Campus. Total Openings: 1. Salary: $28.88 - $33.00 per hour; annual full pay range $60,300 - $103,900; hourly equivalent $28.88 - $49.76. Filing Deadline: Wed 11/5/2025.
