$48/hr – $65/hr (DOE) + 1.5x Overtime
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced
Senior Environmental Engineer
to support environmental site and facility design and remediation projects for federal clients at the Norfolk Naval Base. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in environmental compliance, site characterization, and facility remediation planning, with a strong background in federal environmental standards and NAVFAC criteria. This is a long-term contract-to-direct opportunity with excellent potential for growth.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed environmental site characterization and mitigation reports, assessments, and specifications.
Lead remediation planning for contaminated soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and hazardous materials.
Support demolition and restoration of retired military facilities, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
Develop environmental abatement plans including mold, asbestos, lead-based paint, radon, and UXO-related concerns.
Conduct environmental permitting and compliance processes in support of Navy and DoD facility operations.
Coordinate environmental efforts for construction, MILCON, maintenance, and demolition projects.
Prepare and review environmental documents for hazardous materials surveys and building condition assessments.
Provide post-award construction support, including submittal reviews and on-site consultation.
Serve as a technical resource to ensure NAVFAC and DoD standards are met throughout all design phases.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to develop integrated and efficient site solutions.
Required Qualifications
10+ years
of experience in environmental site/facility assessment, remediation, and compliance.
Bachelor’s degree
in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical, or related field (ABET-accredited).
Professional Engineer (PE)
or
Professional Geologist (PG)
certification – Required.
Demonstrated knowledge of NAVFAC and DoD environmental criteria and facility requirements.
Experience preparing documentation including site reuse plans, demolition specs, and hazardous materials surveys.
Proficiency in environmental permitting, NEPA compliance, and risk mitigation during construction.
Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, civil design/analysis tools, and Specs Intact.
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a
NACI/CAC
clearance.
Preferred Skills
Experience working directly with or for NAVFAC or other federal agencies.
Strong understanding of interdisciplinary facility design coordination.
Effective communicator with the ability to lead projects and interact with contractors and federal stakeholders.
