Job Summary And Qualifications Manages the daily operations and staff functions on the ICU, overseeing the ICU patients’ continuum of care from entry to discharge to ensure all patient care needs are being met. Primary patient population served includes those admitted for acute neurological incidents, acute respiratory failure, MI, acute GI bleed, electrolyte imbalance, trauma, and patients post drug overdose; the patient population ranges in age from older adolescent to geriatric (14‑99).

You will assist in developing objectives, policies, and procedures which support the mission, vision and values of the hospital.

You will promote participation in patient/family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with members of the health care team to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.

You will participate in organizational and unit‑based quality improvement activities, ensuring compliance with accreditation/licensure requirements.

You will be a role model in leadership development, policy development, and decision‑making among staff and will work collaboratively with medical staff, other departments, departmental staff, and serve in a leadership role.

You will provide continued guidance and direction to new employees and provide input on standards of care, supplies and equipment to the nursing director.

Education

B.A./B.S.N. - Required

M.A./M.S. – Preferred

License/Certifications

California Registered Nurse License - Required

BLS Certification - Required

ACLS Certification - Required

NIH Stroke Certification – Required

Experience

3‑5 Years of Managerial or supervisory experience – Required

5 years in Cardiovascular, trauma, or neuro‑surgical ICU (or related unit)

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests.

Ability to resolve conflicts among staff and work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the healthcare team.

Ability to ensure operational efficiency, solve problems and make decisions and exercise self‑control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.

Under minimal direction, can sustain direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities; self‑starting and self‑motivating; working hours may exceed eight (8) hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.
