Assistant Professor - Computer Science and Software Engineering (AY 26/27) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026. Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and master's level courses and support/expand curricular development in computer science and/or software engineering. Engage in scholarly work of high quality as evidenced by external peer review. Perform service at all levels of the university as a faculty member. Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent. Candidates nearing completion (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty. Ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and partnerships with key stakeholders; hands-on, student-centered teaching; ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary settings. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching and research (time-since-degree dependent). Experience with laboratory-based instruction and/or industry experience. Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment. Ability to teach areas of need: software engineering, programming languages, operating systems, high-performance computing, full-stack mobile/web development, and databases; additional emphasis areas include privacy and security, artificial intelligence, game development, and data science.
