Job Description

Overview At AtkinsRéalis is seeking a FEMA Water Resources Scientist to join our Denver CO, Lynnwood WA, Henderson or Reno NV office. Hybrid work arrangement is available (a few days a week in office, rest of week remote).

Responsibilities

Applies knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program, Risk MAP, and Community Rating System (CRS) to support senior staff in developing reports, external communications, training, and technical support to clients and community stakeholders for FEMA Regional offices and state / community clients.

Assist in floodplain management, hazard mitigation, and risk communication activities; support GIS tasks using Esri ArcGIS Pro / ArcMap desktop software and online platform.

Support the floodplain management, training, outreach, and special projects team with meeting facilitation, technical assistance to public stakeholders, compiling and updating reports and map graphics, developing training materials, and technical writing related to GIS and other mapping products and tools.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in GIS, planning, engineering, or a related field, and up to 5 years of related work experience. Ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of experience with a combination of floodplain management, GIS, H&H modeling, hazard mitigation plan development, training development, or public information or outreach related activities.

Completion of FEMA’s EMI E273 course (or equivalent). Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred.

Specialized Skills: Proficiency with Esri’s ArcGIS Pro / ArcMap desktop software and online platform; basic understanding of the National Flood Insurance Program, Risk MAP, and CRS; excellent technical writing and communication skills; attention to detail; experience developing outreach materials, publications, presentations, and training content; experience with audio and video editing; proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and Access; proficiency with online meeting tools (MS Teams, Skype, WebEx, Zoom, Adobe Connect); knowledge of FEMA PTS, CTP, or CAP-SSSE programs; graphic design experience is preferred; HAZUS training and/or experience is preferred.
