City Engineer
to lead the planning, design, and execution of municipal infrastructure projects. As a key member of the city’s leadership team, the City Engineer will oversee all civil engineering functions—including capital improvement projects, transportation systems, stormwater and wastewater infrastructure, and private development review—to ensure the city’s continued growth, safety, and sustainability.
This role is responsible for managing engineering staff and consultants, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards, and providing expert technical guidance to city officials, developers, and the public. The ideal candidate will be a licensed
Professional Engineer (P.E.)
with a strong background in municipal engineering, project management, and interdepartmental collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the city’s engineering operations, including infrastructure design, construction, and maintenance.
Oversee capital improvement programs (CIP), budgets, and long‑range infrastructure planning.
Provide engineering review and approval for public and private development projects.
Supervise engineering staff, consultants, and contractors to ensure quality performance.
Serve as the City Traffic Engineer and guide wastewater and stormwater planning initiatives.
Advise the Mayor, City Council, and department heads on infrastructure policies and standards.
Represent the city in public meetings and coordinate with state and federal agencies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory role.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Indiana or ability to obtain within six months.
Strong knowledge of public works design, stormwater management, transportation systems, and construction oversight.
Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or Civil 3D preferred.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
Full‑time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional evening meetings. Work involves a mix of office‑based planning and field inspections.
