Role The Bankruptcy Specialist II is responsible for managing all facets of borrower bankruptcy filings within Zippy’s manufactured home chattel loan portfolio. This role ensures compliance with federal bankruptcy laws, investor requirements, and internal servicing policies while supporting borrowers, investors, attorneys, and courts through the full bankruptcy lifecycle—from filing through discharge, dismissal, or conversion. The specialist serves as the primary liaison between internal departments, external counsel, and trustees to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant handling of all bankruptcy matters.

Key Responsibilities Case Management

Monitor and track all active bankruptcy filings, including Chapter 7, 11, 12, and 13 cases.

Review daily ECF (Electronic Case Filing) and PACER updates to identify new filings or case changes.

Code and maintain accurate bankruptcy statuses, plan types, and court dates in the servicing system.

Prepare and submit Proofs of Claim, Payment Change Notices, Post‑Petition Fee Notices, and Trustee Payment reconciliations.

Process reaffirmation agreements, trustee disbursements, and payment suspensions or reinstatements per court directives.

Track discharges, dismissals, and conversions to ensure proper reinstatement of loan billing and collections activity.

Compliance & Documentation

Ensure all filings, responses, and actions adhere to federal bankruptcy code, CFPB, and investor guidelines.

Coordinate with legal counsel to ensure timely filing of motions for relief, objections, and claims.

Maintain complete case documentation, including court orders, attorney correspondence, and internal approvals.

Review and reconcile trustee payments against loan servicing records; resolve variances and overpayments promptly.

Support annual audits, investor requests, and internal QA reviews with complete and accurate records.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Partner with Collections, Loss Mitigation, and Default Services to ensure appropriate treatment of loans under bankruptcy protection.

Communicate regularly with escrow, insurance, and investor reporting teams regarding payment holds, recoveries, and remittances.

Provide education and procedural updates to internal teams regarding bankruptcy requirements and status changes.

Performance & Process Improvement

Identify recurring process gaps or compliance risks and propose procedural enhancements.

Support automation initiatives for plan tracking, trustee payment posting, and attorney communications.

Maintain KPI reporting for open cases, SLA compliance, and recovery timelines.

Qualifications Required

Minimum 3–5 years of experience in bankruptcy servicing, default administration, or legal processing within consumer lending or mortgage/chattel servicing.

Strong working knowledge of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 processes, including plan confirmation, payment handling, and discharge procedures.

Experience with servicing systems (e.g., FICS, MSP, or equivalent) and court filing systems (PACER/ECF).

Excellent organizational, analytical, and written communication skills.

Ability to interpret and apply investor, regulatory, and legal requirements consistently.

Preferred

Experience specific to manufactured home chattel loan servicing or indirect lending portfolios.

Familiarity with Proof of Claim reconciliation, trustee communication workflows, and investor remittance alignment.

Exposure to CFPB and OCC mortgage servicing standards and how they apply to personal property lending.

Performance Indicators

SLA adherence for POC submissions and payment postings.

Accuracy of bankruptcy coding and status updates.

Timely closure of discharged/dismissed cases.

Zero material findings in internal/external audits.

Effective collaboration with legal counsel and internal stakeholders.
