Metro Subway or Light Rail Controller (DOT Non-Exempt IV) Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The role is located in Baltimore City, MD.

About the Role This position is responsible for Metro/Light Rail Control Center functions, including monitoring system-wide train movements, train positions, and route alignments displayed on the Central Supervisory Control System. The controller regulates and/or modifies route alignments on the mainline, yard storage tracks, and yard transition areas, monitors voice communications channels, and communicates with yard personnel to implement the daily schedule of trains on the mainline. Controllers will also monitor power substations, SCADA, and system facilities, notify field supervision and managers of operational issues, and perform assorted tasks such as data entry, telephone communications, and hyper-alert notifications.

Responsibilities

Monitor Metro/Light Rail Control Center functions and system-wide train movements.

Regulate and modify route alignments on the mainline, yard storage, and transition areas.

Maintain voice communication with yard personnel and field supervision.

Monitor power substations, SCADA, and system facilities.

Notify managers of operational issues and perform data entry and hyper-alert notifications.

Assist other controllers in combined responsibilities.

Work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, assigned to one of three 8-hour shifts in a 24-hour period.

Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalency certificate.

Five years of experience in a transit system and/or transportation operation, with at least one year in a rail environment.

Substitution: Valid college degree in transportation, business administration, or related field may substitute for experience.

Substitution: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving relevant staff work may substitute for education and experience.

Special Requirements

Required to work 24-hour on-call shifts and maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call-back requirements.

Work evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Travel to various locations throughout the MTA service area.

Subject to substance-abuse testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Possession of a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator's license.

Location Baltimore City, MD.
