Job Description and Duties

This is a 12 month Limited Term that may be extended to 24 months or become permanent. Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager II (SSMII), the SSMI (Supervisor) works in a team environment and co-manages a group of technical analysts and administrative support staff with the responsibility for performing a wide variety of duties associated with the Caltrans workers' compensation Return to Work (RTW) program. In addition, the SSMI works to facilitate compliance with federal and state reasonable accommodation and family leave statutes for injured workers. The SSMI contributes to the building of better team structures, driving teamwork and collaboration, promoting innovation, and supporting positive and constructive professional relationships. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Staff Services Manager I exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Duty Statement . Working Conditions

The incumbent will work in a climate‑controlled office under artificial light. There will be occasional fluctuations in building temperature. The incumbent will work in a cubicle and will periodically attend meetings and/or trainings. Some travel may be required. The incumbent and members of their team may telework regularly. The work environment varies from an office setting using a computer, to a classroom providing training to employees, to a field setting at active construction or maintenance work zones in varying weather conditions. While indoors, tasks related to the administration of the Department's Safety Program are performed. Activities include, but are not limited to, sitting for prolonged periods while using the telephone, keyboard, and video display terminal. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Minimum Requirements
