Pay Range Base pay: $87,133.00/yr - $161,448.00/yr (actual pay based on skills and experience). This range is provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program — a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible individuals must submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount is up to $200,000 and the eligibility period ranges from one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review. Former participants in the EDRP are ineligible to apply.
Duties
The Manhattan VAMC has an opening for a Clinical Psychologist in Women's Health.
The Women’s Health Psychologist is assigned to provide psychological services for women veterans in the Women’s Health Clinic - VA New York Harbor Healthcare System.
This position is assigned to work in the Women Health program and provide services to women veterans in various clinical settings—Primary Care, Emergency Department, Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology, Mental Health and other specialty care services.
Responsibilities include – but are not limited to: (80%) Clinical Responsibilities.
Provides a full range of psychological assessments and diagnoses for women Veterans requesting specific services, including same-day assessments in Women’s Clinic.
Provides disposition regarding treatment modalities that are best suitable for patients.
May include PCMHI (Primary Care Mental Health Integration) – short-term psychotherapy, long-term psychotherapy and/or group therapy.
Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic treatment for trauma (PTSD – MST – relational trauma) and other diagnoses.
Offers individual, couples, and group treatments depending on Veteran preferences and needs.
Provides drop-in readiness and psychoeducational groups to assure access and engage women Veterans in care.
Is familiar with, and ideally certified in, evidence-based psychotherapies used in treatment of conditions for women Veterans; familiar with clinical research literature.
Provides clinical services and develops programming and clinical offerings relevant to specific developmental and diversity needs of the women veteran population, including age-related needs (e.g., menstrual cycles, prenatal, postnatal, infertility, menopause), sexual orientation and health-based needs (mind–body approaches, holistic health, MOVE for women, nutrition for women, mindfulness).
Provides consultation to professional staff within the Women Veterans’ Health Program—Primary Care, Emergency Department, Mental Health Service, and community providers—concerning clinical assessment and care of women Veterans.
Incumbent provides consultation on empirically validated treatments as requested.
Consults with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, internists, and other physicians—mental health pharmacists—as well as psychology staff and trainees.
Facilitates outreach, screening, programming, and clinical services to women veterans throughout NY Harbor Healthcare System via outreach to different campuses—CBOCs, Vet Centers, women Veterans and family members as needed.
Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for assigned women Veterans, including prompt completion of clinical reminders.
Education and Training (10%)
Ability to provide clinical supervision in areas related to women veterans' behavioral health.
Supervision of assessments, consults, and ongoing psychotherapy cases (individual short- and long-term psychotherapy) – administrative supervision and coordination of services provided by psychology trainees.
Supervision of psychology trainees in identifying and intervening with psychiatric and behavioral disorders using evidence-based treatments.
Supervision and didactic training of psychology trainees on women's issues, LGBTIQ issues, diversity (sexual orientation, race, military culture, ethnicity).
Training and education for other services' staff on these issues.
Supervision of coordination of services for female veterans treated by psychology trainees, including mental health, PCMHI, and specialty clinics.
Incumbent will oversee that psychology trainees channel this coordination properly and efficiently.
Supervises psychology trainees in their decision-making process regarding appropriate recommendations for the treatment of women veterans within the Women’s Clinic.
Psychology trainees may offer either PCMHI or Behavioral Health interventions—depending on which is deemed appropriate for the patient.
Treatment disposition supervised by incumbent psychologist.
Assists psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health pharmacists, other providers, and physicians as needed, as well as psychology staff and trainees, to develop an adequate psychological understanding of women veterans.
Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
