Overview The Audiologist II will assess, identify, treat, or refer patients with or at risk for hearing loss, balance disorders, and other auditory problems. This position provides patient and family education, identifies follow‑up resources, and coordinates care with referring providers and the care team. It may require mentoring in complex situations and may face challenges with cross‑coverage to other settings.

Responsibilities

Evaluates and treats all diagnoses, including more complex patients.

Conducts thorough evaluations of patients’ medical history and functional limitations to develop individualized treatment plans.

Provides diagnostic audiologic services to pediatric and adult clients, determining plans of care to identify and treat hearing and auditory processing disorders.

Determines and documents the type, degree, symmetry, stability, and configuration of hearing loss in children and adults.

Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with health system standards and regulatory guidelines.

Monitors and documents patients’ progress, treatment outcomes, and responses to interventions so that treatment plans can be adjusted as needed.

Uses appropriate technologies and techniques to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment services to inpatients and outpatients suspected of, at risk for, or with known hearing handicaps.

Depending on location/scope, may include:

Determining candidacy for hearing aids, bone‑anchored hearing aids, or cochlear implants.

Evidently evaluating hearing devices, performing repairs, and maintaining devices.

Determining an appropriate treatment plan, including the fitting and dispensing of hearing instruments and assistive listening devices.

Completing Real Ear Measurements during hearing aid programming to determine if hearing aids are working properly and meeting prescriptive targets.

Performing Dix Hall Pike and appropriate treatment based on test results.

Performing newborn hearing screenings using Automated Auditory Brainstem Response (AABR) technology.

Conducting Natural Sleep Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) evaluations.

Conducting Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) assessments.

Performing Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Conditioned Play Audiometry, and Conventional Audiometry techniques.

Demonstrating competence in evaluating children with autism spectrum disorder, global developmental delays, and other complex pediatric populations.

Conducting bedside audiology evaluations for inpatients as needed.

Provides effective and thorough patient/family/caregiver education.

Collaborates effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team—including physicians, therapists, nurses, and other allied health professionals—to ensure coordinated patient care.

Collaborates on teams from different departments to ensure holistic treatment outcomes.

Implements best practices recommended by the American Academy of Audiology and/or the American Speech and Language Association.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education:

Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) required. A Master’s in Audiology will be accepted if earned and licensed prior to December 2007.

Experience:

Required: 2 years. Preferred: 3 years in a venue of care.

Licensure/Certification/Registry/Listing:

Licensure from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech‑Language Pathologists and Audiologists; BLS (CPR) from the American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
