Senior Surgical Technician – On Call – Days (Oakland)
Under direct supervision, assists the surgical team before, during, and after surgery. Provides expert support, assistance, and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
Essential Responsibilities
Direct, check, review, assign, organize, coordinate, train and provide reporting on the work of one or more Surgical Technicians; demonstrate ability to perform the most complex techniques and procedures of this classification.
Coordinate equipment configuration to provide ease of use, place equipment and supplies in the operating room, and check instruments for sterility and functionality prior to the case; assist with set‑up and use of equipment during procedures.
Assist team members in placing and positioning the patient on the table, scrub arms and hands, and don gown and gloves.
Hand instruments and supplies to the surgeon, hold retractors, and perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon and circulating nurse; count sponges, needles and instruments before and after the operation per hospital policy; put dressings on the patient after surgery.
Actively participate in meeting patient safety goals and promote quality and safe patient care.
Clean the operating room and assist in room turnover.
Wash and sterilize equipment.
Recommend to the manager guidelines for equipment use, purchase of new/replacement equipment, additional parts and supplies.
Assemble and comply case carts with supplies, instruments, and equipment in preparation for the procedure.
Perform other related duties as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Motivates and provides work direction to other employees but does not have the authority to hire, fire or discipline.
Qualifications
At least two (2) years of experience as a Surgical Technician or demonstrate the ability to perform the most complex techniques and procedures of this classification.
